As you know, Google is the parent company of the Android operating system. The company has made its Android operating system so popular that there is no competition if we talk about the number of users. In this online era, no device has remained so safe and secure. Nowadays, every device has software defects that can be dangerous for users’ data security. To fix this type of vulnerability, Google releases monthly security updates.

Google has designed its firmware structure so well that whenever the company pushes the update, it is directly available for update in its stock android phones, but in the case of Samsung, it is quite different because most of the time, Samsung beats Google in terms of firmware update and released them even before the official announcement of Google. The same happened with the January 2023 security patch update. Samsung has served it in some Galaxy devices, including Galaxy Note 10 series, Galaxy S21 series, and Galaxy A73 5G even before the official bulletin of Google.

As usual, Samsung offered more details for fixes related to software vulnerabilities, such as validating incorrect input in TelephonyUI that allowed attackers to configure the preferred call.

The patch also addresses a vulnerability of the NFC-related hardcoded encryption key and an access control vulnerability in telecommunications applications to prevent sensitive information leaks.

The January 2023 security update also fixes a vulnerability in the Samsung Knox service related to permissions or privileges. Also, it adds restrictions that prevent the protected folder container from remaining unlocked under certain conditions.

Moreover, Samsung, most of the time, gives some extra fixes with its new security patches depending on the reports of issues, and it reflects the company’s mentality towards its customer that how it wants to protect its customer’s data.
