The absence of the South Korean Tech Giant Samsung at MWC Shanghai has become significant news since the business has not skipped any of this annual regional trade expo since at least 2017. Samsung had a stand even in 2021, the pandemic-tainted MWC Shanghai edition. At MWC Barcelona, the largest mobile communications industry trade exhibition in the world, Samsung participated as a major sponsor and exhibitor earlier this year. It primarily utilized this exhibit for advertising Busan as the site of the World Expo 2030 and for visualizing the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Book 3 to the public. Attempts for a response from Samsung have not been quickly answered since Wednesday. GSMA, which organizes the MWC Shanghai expo and speaks for the interests of mobile network carriers globally not address Samsung’s non-appearance.
Not only Samsung, according to a spokesman from GSMA, Qualcomm, a US-based company that develops semiconductors, software, and services related to mobile communications, and Swedish manufacturer Ericsson of telecoms equipment likewise did not have booths at the Shanghai event this year and the reasons remain unknown. Ericsson had intended to put up a stand at MWC Shanghai but ‘backed out shortly before the show began this week,’ stated the person who wished to remain anonymous.
The reasons are kept secret from the trade show’s organizer that despite being initially scheduled as an exhibitor, Qualcomm eventually opted to withdraw. Among the 15 prominent corporate sponsors of MWC Shanghai, Ericsson, and Qualcomm were both included, in contrast to Samsung.
