Google Introduces New Way To Discover Places In Maps with Generative AI
Google is announcing a new, easy way to discover places along with generative AI to help people do just that – regardless of how particular, niche or broad their needs might be.
Now the users have to say what they are looking for, such as places with a vintage vibe in SF, and the brand new large-language models (LLMs) will analyze Maps’ detailed information about more than 250 million places and trusted insights from the brand’s community of more than 300 million contributors to fastly make suggestions for where to go.
The brand is starting in the U.S. This early access experiment was released this week to choose Local Guides, who are some of the most active as well as passionate members of the Maps community. Now, Google’s AI models will help analyze the Maps’ rich details regarding nearby businesses and places along with images, ratings, and reviews from the Maps community to deliver worthy trust suggestions.
The results are organized into helpful categories, such as clothing stores, vinyl shops, and flea markets, alongside image carousels and review summaries that highlight the reason why the particular place is interesting for the users to visit. These AI-powered results also arrive in handy if the users are feeling spontaneous or need to change their plans instantly. The users will also get convenient suggestions such as comedy shows or movie theatres.
This experimental capability will introduce an entirely new way for users to discover places more easily and quickly and explore the world conveniently with maps. However, the brand has stated that it is just the initial stage of supercharging maps along with generative AI.
