A new enhancement for the seeks of customers: The Council and the European Parliament finally come to a point of agreement on the directive promoting the repair of broken or defective gadgets, and this is known as the Right to Right (R2R) Directive.

The EU has consented to a provisional version in which manufacturers will have to offer an additional 12 months of warranty to users even after a repair. The agreement puts manufacturers under an obligation to offer details on spare parts on their website, to make them available to all parties in the repair industry at an affordable price, while maintaining the right to choose between repair and replacement for the defective products still within the warranty of consumers.

prohibiting practices that turn aside second-hand or 3D-printed spare parts by independent repairers. Keeping this fact in mind, a standardized European repair details form will be made available free of charge, even for helping the small service centers offer way better service to customers.

It is known that the EU will also open a European online repair platform that will be used to detail repair services in member regions. However, at the moment, this new provision comes into existence, and its execution will take time. But somewhere, it doesn’t matter how much time it will take, since it is a step in the right direction.

With this new provision, consumers will have more ease in requesting repair except replacement, faster, much more transparent, and more attractive access to repair services as well. In November, the European Parliament agreed to repair smartphones.
