Samsung preparing to join Apple’s OLED display supply chain for future MacBooks
The Korean brand ‘Samsung’ is expanding its limitations by gearing up to join the OLED display supply chain of the fruit company ‘Apple’ for upcoming MacBook variants.
Since a couple of years ago, it has been rumored that Apple is planning to switch the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air from mini-LED and LCD display technology to OLED. According to reports from The Elec, Samsung is looking to join Apple’s OLED display. If the recent reports are to be believed, presently Samsung is assembling an 8th generation OLED panel production line, aiming to supply Apple with OLED displays for future MacBook models.
However, the reports reveal that panels from the production line will not reach new MacBook models until 2027. A few months later, in 2023, it was revealed that Apple is setting up to bring OLED display technology to nine new gadgets by 2027, starting with two new iPad Pro models in March.
Then the brand changed its aim and shifted its concentration to an OLED 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2025, before even debuting a new 14-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air, 10.9-inch iPad Air, and 8.7-inch iPad mini models with OLED displays next year. The reports are suggesting that panels from the new production line will not be used in the first wave of OLED MacBooks next year.
It is also known that in 2027, Apple is also expected to debut OLED in the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Air model; however, there has been no official announcement regarding this yet. There are various advantages to OLED displays, which include increased brightness, a higher contrast ratio, greater color accuracy, and lower power consumption compared to existing models with LCDs. whereas OLED panels are also thinner and lighter as compared to LCDs. On the other hand, Apple already prefers an OLED display for all iPhone and Apple Watch models except the iPhone SE.
