Samsung Defends Bixby and Galaxy Buds Patents Successfully in the USA

Published

on

Samsung has won a lawsuit in the US in opposition to a former employee who charged them with copying technology for Bixby and Galaxy Buds. The ex-employee used to lead Samsung’s patent team in their fights against Apple.

The report says a US court has rejected a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics. This lawsuit was filed by a patent management firm named Synergy IP Pte. and Statern Tekiya LLC. Synergy IP Pte was brought into being by Ahn Seung-ho, a former senior Samsung Electronics employee who oversaw several audio and voice-related patents while he worked as Samsung’s head of the intellectual property center for over a decade.

Back in 2020, he left Samsung Electronics. After leaving the firm, Ahn Seung-ho sued their former employer in 2021, claiming that the brand violated ten patents owned by an audio firm called Statern. It was claimed that Samsung Electronics unfairly used Statern’s audio technologies to develop Bixby, Galaxy Buds, and other audio devices.

Four more patent lawsuits were filed against Samsung in 2022. However, fortunately, the court dismissed the first lawsuit against Samsung and stated that there was no need to judge whether the patents were infringed as the lawsuit itself could not be established.

If the report is to be believed, personal Ahn Seung-ho stole confidential information on Statern from the Korean giant with the help of the brand’s trade sector official, his former subordinate. That information was used to file a patent failure to observe lawsuit against Samsung. The US court also stated that Ahn Seung-ho caused irreparable damage to Samsung Electronics by filing the lawsuit in his favor, using his position as a lawyer and the company’s internal confidential information.
