Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Series Built to Withstand Harsh Conditions

Samsung introduced the latest smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 8 series, which has obtained notable certification, making the watches more durable than their predecessors.

The Korean tech giant has launched the Galaxy Watch 8 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event, including two models—

  • Galaxy Watch 8
  • Galaxy Watch 8 Classic

Both watches are powered by the in-house Exynos W1000 chipset based on a 3nm process and run the Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch software version out of the box. Samsung has offered several essential sensors to each model, such as the Samsung BioActive Sensor, Temperature Sensor, Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, and more. The watches have several connectivity options, like LTE, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 2.4+5 GHz, and more.

Apart from these, both the watches have a truly notable compatibility, as they have earned the MIL-STD 810H certification by passing a tough military-grade durability test for extreme temperature, which makes the watches more durable as compared to their predecessor.

Galaxy Watch8 series has obtained MIL-STD 810H Certification: It has undergone a test that repeats from -20°C (1Hr) to 50°C (1Hr) for a total 6 hours.

This means the Galaxy Watch 8 series has passed a tough military-grade durability test for extreme temperatures. Here’s what that test specifically involved:

  1. The Test: The watch was repeatedly cycled between two extreme temperatures:
    • -20°C (-4°F) for 1 hour (Very Cold – like a freezer or winter day)
    • +50°C (122°F) for 1 hour (Very Hot – like a hot car in direct sun)
  2. The Cycle: This freezing/heating cycle was repeated multiple times.
  3. The Duration: The total time spent cycling between these extremes was 6 hours.
  4. The Standard: This test is part of the MIL-STD-810H certification, a U.S. military standard used to prove equipment can withstand harsh environmental conditions.

The overall time spent cycling between these extremes was 6 hours. Once the watches passed all of these test cycles, a U.S. military standard agreed to give MIL-STD-810H certification. Transparently, all of these successful extreme tests prove the watch’s durability at a high level.
