Samsung May Add Satellite Texting to Its Messages App

Samsung seems to be bringing a convenient satellite texting feature to its dedicated Samsung Messages app to enhance the messaging experience without requiring a network.

Samsung has already adopted Google Messages as the default messaging app for its latest Galaxy devices. But it hasn’t completely left its dedicated messaging app, as a new report revealed that it is looking forward to bringing a satellite-based emergency texting feature for Samsung Messages.

A Reddit user has reported that he found several code strings in the latest Samsung Messages app that seem related to satellite-based emergency texting. Reportedly, two specific strings suggest that Samsung is working on “Satellite Mode” for the Samsung Messages app, which only supports SMS.

Noticeably, it’s mentioned that RCS messaging is unavailable in this mode, and multimedia files, for instance, pictures and videos, can’t be attached to messages sent via satellites. However, this under-the-hood development of the satellite texting feature for the Samsung Messages app hints that the company hasn’t completely dropped the app in favor of Google Messages.

The user just revealed he has spotted the strings regarding the satellite-based texting feature; apart from this, he didn’t reveal any specific details regarding the availability and eligible Galaxy devices for this feature. On the other side, Samsung has yet to reveal anything regarding this under-development satellite feature for its Messages app, so it remains to be seen whether the report will come true.
