Samsung’s next-gen laptops could be located & locked without internet requirement

Samsung’s future laptops, powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X2 Elite chipset, are expected to be located, locked, and wiped even when offline.

Recently, during the Snapdragon Summit 2025 event, Qualcomm launched its new flagship chipset for smartphones, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It announced that the Korean tech giant could use this newly launched chipset for its next-generation Galaxy S26 series and Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme for future laptops.

Qualcomm also unveiled the Snapdragon Guardian technology, which will enable businesses and consumers to locate their laptops and also permit them to lock and wipe these devices, even when they are not connected to the internet, powered off, or aren’t bootable. This will be quite convenient for particular scenarios; for instance, if the device gets lost or stolen, then one can easily locate or even lock it to prevent unauthorized access.

This technology is based on 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity built into the Snapdragon X2 Elite series chipset, which will be significant for businesses and consumers to remotely manage their laptops.

However, it remains unclear whether Qualcomm will offer any platform that will allow businesses and consumers to locate, lock, and wipe their laptops. It’s expected that more details regarding this feature will come into existence soon. It will also be interesting to see whether Samsung will use the Snapdragon X2 Elite chipset for its upcoming laptops; however, there is a high possibility, since the company has already used the Snapdragon X Elite to power the Galaxy Book 4 Edge.
