Samsung secured a chip manufacturing contract for most Hyundai cars

Samsung Foundry has secured a new contract to manufacture semiconductor chipsets for Hyundai Motor Company cars, which is anticipated to be efficient for the company.

In a few recent weeks, Samsung has earned a few crucial semiconductor chip manufacturing contracts from Apple and Tesla. Now, a new report from ZDNet Korea revealed that Samsung Foundry has cracked the deal with Hyundai Motor Company to manufacture 8nm semiconductor chips for Hyundai cars.

Reportedly, this sovereign driving chip has been designed by Hyundai in-house, and its complete development will be finished by 2028, and then the chip will be mass-produced by Samsung Foundry in 2030.

According to the report, Hyundai chose an 8nm process for its chipset, and the reason behind this is its cost-effectiveness while still offering comparable performance to a 5nm chipset. It will use these newly manufactured chips in several cars, including the Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia brands, whereas the 5nm chip will only be used in most premium cars.

It has been three to four years since Samsung Foundry has been struggling hard to regain its leading position and stand strong against its rival TSMC in the semiconductor chipset industry. To deal with this fall, Samsung renewed its strategy and is trying to attract more brands for its 2nm process node.

Recently, it has sent a sample chip of Samsung’s version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 to Qualcomm. If the sample passes the performance and stability test, then it could be mass-produced next year and could be used in a few next-generation Galaxy phones.
