Samsung is now looking forward to advancing its smartphone camera technologies, as it is developing a new camera sensor that has “global shutter-level” capabilities.
Transparency aside, Samsung is one of the leading brands in terms of smartphone cameras, as it continues to bring innovation to camera setups with its high-end models to enhance the capturing experience over the years.
Meanwhile, now a reliable tipster, Jukan (via), shared a post on X, claiming that under the hood, Samsung is working on a new smartphone camera sensor with global shutter-like capabilities. It’s expected that the company will bring this new technology with its next-generation Galaxy flagship.
However, it remains unclear whether it will arrive with the upcoming Galaxy S26 series or later with the Galaxy S27 series. Currently, almost all smartphone cameras available in the market use a rolling shutter to capture photos, which gradually captures an image by exposing one line of pixels at a time. Now, with Samsung’s new global shutter capability, the camera sensor can capture a scene by exposing all pixels simultaneously.
Global shutter technology will be efficient for capturing moving scenes and will also reduce subject warping more than rolling shutters. But here’s a catch: camera sensors with global shutter typically have a low resolution, as they require very large pixels.
