Samsung Just Made Galaxy AI Free Forever — But There’s a Catch

Samsung fine print kept users guessing, stating that AI features were “complimentary through 2025” and that future access “may require purchase.” It was a hedge that let Samsung test the market without committing, and it left phone owners wondering if their AI tools would eventually cost money.

That uncertainty is now gone. Samsung quietly updated its Galaxy AI page to confirm that basic features will remain free indefinitely. No expiration date. No surprise fees.

As recently as January 1, 2026, Samsung’s website still warned about potential charges after 2025. Days later, the company replaced that language with something clearer: “Galaxy AI basic features provided by Samsung are free.”

The new disclaimer adds that future “enhanced features or new services” might cost money, and third-party AI tools could have separate terms. But the core Samsung-built features aren’t going anywhere.

It’s a small change that closes a loop Samsung left open since Galaxy AI launched. The company said in July 2025 it had “no plans to charge” for default features, but the legal text told a different story until now.

The basic tier includes tools that shipped with phones like the Galaxy S24: live call translation, AI photo editing, transcription, and Circle to Search. These remain part of the standard package.

Samsung is leaving room for premium features down the line, but it’s finally being honest about what users can count on keeping for free.
