Foldable phones have always asked buyers to spend more than they want to. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup is no exception, and the upcoming Fold8 looks set to continue that tradition, though perhaps not as aggressively as some feared.
Leaker TheGalox recently posted what they claim are the official US pricing tiers for the Galaxy Z Fold8. Take these with appropriate skepticism, but the numbers are specific enough to be worth examining.
The base model, packing 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, is reportedly coming in at $1,999. Step up to 512GB of storage and you are looking at $2,199. The top-tier configuration, with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, lands at $2,499 if the leak holds.
The base price mirrors what Samsung charged for the Fold7, which is a reasonable move given how price-sensitive the premium segment has become. The higher storage tiers do see modest increases, though nothing dramatic.
The Fold8 is expected to arrive with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 inside, which should deliver a meaningful performance bump. More practically useful is the reported battery upgrade, jumping from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh, with charging speeds climbing from 25W to 45W. Battery life has been a persistent weak point for foldables, so this matters.
The real competitive pressure this cycle comes from Apple, which is widely expected to enter the foldable market. Samsung holding the line on entry pricing starts to look like a deliberate strategic choice.
