Pokémon GO Mega Finale Brings Mega Mewtwo Raids This Weekend

The Pokémon GO Mega Finale is closing out this year’s GO Fest season in a big way. Running September 5 and 6, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time, the event headlines with Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y as Super Mega Raid bosses, alongside the return of Armored Mewtwo for the first time since 2020. A lead-up event called Mega Ascension is already underway, running through September 4 to help Trainers prepare.

Pokémon GO Fest 2026 originally took place globally on July 11 and 12, but Niantic is extending the celebration with this dedicated Mega Evolution finale to close out the summer season.

What We Know About the Mega Finale

Mega Ascension kicked off August 31 at 10 a.m. local time and runs through September 4 at 11:59 p.m., serving as the buildup to the main event. During this stretch, the Remote Raid limit increases to 30, and Mega Raid bosses rotate daily, starting with Mega Victreebel, Mega Dragonite, and Mega Malamar on the opening day.

The centerpiece of the whole week is GO Pass: Mega Finale, a free progression track that starts with branching Timed Research asking Trainers to choose one of three Kalos first partner Pokémon: Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie. That choice determines which version of the GO Pass a Trainer receives and which Mega Evolution they’ll work toward, since each starter has its own path leading to Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, or Mega Greninja. The free GO Pass includes enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve the chosen Pokémon once, while an optional GO Pass Deluxe: Mega Finale upgrade adds bonus Candy, Candy XL, XP from Mega Raids, and better Shiny odds on certain encounters.

During the main event weekend itself, Mega Mewtwo X appears in Super Mega Raids on Saturday, September 5, with Mega Mewtwo Y taking over on Sunday, September 6. Armored Mewtwo joins as a standard five-star raid boss across both days, marking its first appearance in Pokémon GO since 2020. Eight rotating habitats will cycle through the weekend, four per day, each appearing twice, bringing back a wide range of previously featured Mega-Evolved raid bosses alongside the headlining Mewtwo forms. Remote Raid limits are lifted entirely for the weekend, meaning Trainers can join as many raids as they can manage without the usual daily cap.

Combined with the uncapped Remote Raid limit for the weekend, this event gives dedicated raiders a rare window to clear out multiple high-value targets without the usual daily raid pass constraints slowing things down.
