Minecraft Dungeons II Launches Tomorrow With the Sift and Four-Player Co-Op
Minecraft Dungeons II arrives tomorrow, September 29, 2026, and it’s a much bigger swing than the original. Developed by Mojang Studios and Double Eleven and published by Xbox Game Studios, the action RPG launches on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Cloud, and other platforms, and it’s included with Game Pass.
The sequel to the 2020 dungeon crawler drops players into a new dimension called the Sift, and Mojang says that dimension will also land in Minecraft itself next year.
What’s New in Minecraft Dungeons II
The first game was built around linear, hand-crafted missions. The sequel changes that with an interconnected open world where caves and forgotten ruins can change their layouts between visits.
Mojang has detailed a long list of new systems:
- Expanded gear slots and customizable enchantments
- Jumping and parkour mechanics
- Quests scattered across the world
- Co-op for up to four players, plus new matchmaking to find a party
Solo play is fully supported. You can also craft your build from weapons, armor, artifacts, talismans, and legendary gear, which keeps the loot chase that defined the first game.
The Sift Is Coming to Minecraft
The biggest headline came from Minecraft LIVE on September 26. Mojang confirmed that the Sift, first announced at Gamescom, is the first new dimension in Minecraft in more than 14 years. Players can visit it tomorrow in Minecraft Dungeons II, and it joins Minecraft: Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027.
Two biomes are confirmed so far, Meadows and Carapace. Mojang is keeping the rest under wraps for players to discover. Details on how the dimension will work in the main game are thin, so Dungeons II is the best preview of its mobs, blocks, and biomes.
Pre-Order Bonuses and Rewards
Pre-order offers at participating retailers include two hero skins, the Twisted cape, and the Twisted chicken pet. That promotion closes September 28 at 12 p.m. PDT, so today is the last window.
Players who own both Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Dungeons II on the same Microsoft account can also earn a cape that works in Dungeons II and in Minecraft: Java and Bedrock Edition. Both games are sold separately.
Online console co-op requires a platform-specific online subscription. The game carries an ESRB rating of E 10+.
How the Sequel Got Here
Mojang revealed the game at Minecraft LIVE in March 2026 and set the September date in June. A tie-in novel, Minecraft Dungeons II: The Rift, arrived in March, and its companion story wrapped on September 18.
