Signal Veil Announced: A 90s Anime-Style Survival Horror Game With a Haunted Phone
Signal Veil horror game was revealed on October 1, a third-person survival horror game from Chilean studio Time Hunters and Tokyo-based publisher Serafini Productions. The announcement arrived alongside a trailer confirming the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
No release date has been confirmed, but wishlisting is already live on every announced platform.
What Signal Veil Horror Game is About
Players take on the role of Aki Mizuno, a teenage girl investigating her mother’s unexplained disappearance. The only thing left behind is an old cellphone with supernatural abilities, one that vibrates, emits static, and distorts visually whenever spirits or lingering memories are nearby.
That phone becomes Aki’s core survival tool. It detects enemies before they fully manifest, reveals hidden clues and corrupted areas invisible to the naked eye, and its camera flash can stun spirits during encounters. Enemies can’t simply be damaged outright either; players first need to expose them through the game’s spiritual system, using the phone’s flash or provoking spirits into revealing their weak points.
Much of the story plays out inside Nishikawa High School, a setting the developers describe as ordinary at first glance before gradually warping under supernatural influence as Aki’s own sanity begins to erode.
Classic Horror Roots With an Anime Visual Style
Signal Veil leans directly on genre staples. The developers cite Resident Evil and Silent Hill as influences for its fixed-camera tension and classic survival horror structure, including resource and inventory management as a core part of the experience.

Where it diverges is visually. Rather than the photorealistic horror typical of its influences, Signal Veil adopts a 90s anime-inspired aesthetic, drawing specifically from psychological horror series like Another and Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s a combination the developers have leaned into heavily since the reveal, pitching the game explicitly as “90s anime meets Resident Evil.”
What’s Still Unknown
Beyond the setting, mechanics, and platforms, Signal Veil remains light on specifics nearly a week after its announcement. No release window, pricing, or further story details beyond the opening premise have been shared. Serafini Productions and Time Hunters haven’t confirmed whether a demo or beta is planned ahead of launch either.
