Yona of the Dawn Sequel Anime Reveals Pierrot Films as Animation Studio

Yona of the Dawn’s long-awaited anime sequel has received an important production update, with Pierrot Films confirmed to handle animation production. The announcement offers fans a new reason to look forward to the continuation of the fantasy series, which originally aired in 2014 and went more than a decade without a confirmed sequel.

The sequel was first announced in December 2025, but details about its production were limited at the time. The latest update from the anime’s official X account confirms the involvement of Pierrot Films, a production brand established under Studio Pierrot.

Known for its work on Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War and the newer Black Clover anime project, Pierrot Films brings experience with seasonal anime productions. However, the sequel’s release date, director, staff, and returning voice cast have not yet been announced in the supplied information.

Pierrot Films to Handle Yona of the Dawn Sequel

The involvement of Pierrot Films is one of the biggest developments for the upcoming Yona of the Dawn sequel. The brand was established as Studio Pierrot adapted to the industry’s growing emphasis on seasonal anime and more focused production schedules.

Studio Pierrot has worked on major franchises such as Naruto and Tokyo Ghoul, as well as Bleach. Its newer production brand has been associated with Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, which received praise for its animation and pacing.

Pierrot Films was created with the goal of producing high-quality anime under a production approach better suited to shorter, seasonal releases. Its involvement could offer Yona of the Dawn an opportunity to benefit from that model, although the sequel’s final animation quality will only become clear when more footage is released.

Yona of the Dawn Sequel Release Date and Production Details

Although the sequel has been confirmed, several important details remain unknown. No release window, episode count, director, or full production staff list has been announced in the information provided.

The returning voice cast has also not been confirmed. Fans will need to wait for further announcements to learn whether performers from the 2014 anime will return for the new project.

The sequel announcement arrived after the conclusion of Mizuho Kusanagi’s long-running manga, which began serialization in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine in August 2009. The manga ran for more than 15 years and was collected into over 40 volumes.

The end of the manga provided an important milestone for the franchise, while the sequel announcement revived hopes of seeing more of Yona’s story animated.

What Is Yona of the Dawn About?

Yona of the Dawn follows Princess Yona, whose life changes after her father is murdered by her childhood friend and cousin, Su-won. Forced to flee her kingdom, Yona escapes with the help of her loyal bodyguard, Hak.

The original anime aired in 2014 and ran for 24 episodes. With a sequel now confirmed, viewers may finally see more of the story adapted for television, although the specific manga chapters the new season will cover have not been announced.
