Samsung Moves Away from Curved Displays After a Decade

Published

The curved display is not the case for Samsung anymore! The Korean giant saying goodbye to curved and edge screens hints at the end of an era that the brand itself ushered in almost a decade ago.

Samsung first introduced the innovative curved design with the Galaxy Note Edge and later the Galaxy S6 Edge. These screens took advantage of OLED technology’s flexibility, which was still quite new at the time, to authorize additional interaction facilities along with the curved edges.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Marks the End of an Era

Curved screens were once a cutting-edge strategy for Samsung to stand out. Now several high-end smartphones are arriving with curved edges, which offer little to no advantage and can even cause problems such as accidental touches and difficult readability at the edge. With the recently launched Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Korean giant relies on a flatter display, with only the glass bit rounded to offer a comfortable feeling in the hand.

This move follows a general trend in the tech market, with manufacturers like Google also moving away from curved displays, and even Xiaomi has followed suit with the 14 Ultra. At the moment, the key reason behind the decision to say goodbye to edge displays is not exactly clear yet, but maybe there are technical and practical reasons. Flat displays tend to be more robust and less susceptible to damage in the event of a fall; they also offer better compatibility with protective films and cases.

Experimenting with unusual display shapes is nothing new; for instance, the LG G Flex, which came with a vertically curved screen, and the Samsung Nexus S also had a slight curvature. These designs were fascinating technical gimmicks that showed how each smartphone brand tried hard to stand out from the competition through innovative features.

Samsung Could Reveal Galaxy Z Fold 6 ‘Slim’ Along with Galaxy S25

Published

The Korean firm ‘Samsung’ is reportedly gearing up for a Fold 6 Slim with a larger display, but this time without an S Pen.

Transparently, Samsung is building the next-generation foldable in full swing. Now leaks and CAD renders are blowing into the market, revealing the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6’s design. Not only design, but rumors also hint that the Korean giant is working on an ‘Ultra’ variant of its flagship foldable.

However, the expected Ultra variant of the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 might see a limited release or not launch at all. Meanwhile, to increase the enthusiasm among fans, Ross Young on X has shared more details about “Fold 6 Slim,” which could ship with a bigger display as compared to Fold 6.

The CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, Ross Young, known for his accurate display-related supply chain leaks, says he’s hearing about Samsung working on a Fold 6 Slim. The device will have a larger display than that of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6, but it noticeably lacks S Pen support. Apart from this, he also hinted that it’s quite possible the Korean giant could market the device as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, but the exact final name is yet to be decided. He pointed out in the post that the Samsung Fold 6 Slim could arrive in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Irrespective of the name, the open-book foldable will “definitely” be slimmer than the Fold 6 due to the lack of a digitizer. As per the analysis of the display analyst, it might carry similar price tags as the Fold 6. It is expected that this could launch alongside the Galaxy S25 series, which is supposed to arrive in early 2025.

On the other hand, the sixth-generation Galaxy foldable Galaxy Z Folf 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will debut at the Galaxy Unpacked event in early July

Samsung Galaxy A83 Reportedly Under Development

Published

By

A new Samsung Galaxy device is spotted in the budding stage, named the Galaxy A83. The Korean giant is now gearing up to expand its Galaxy A series by introducing a new mid-range device.

This upcoming Galaxy smartphone has been spotted as a new Samsung phone in the database of India’s Bureau of India Standards, as the report says. Apart from this, there is no confirmation of the moniker of the device. It seems that it could be named the Galaxy A83 when it arrives on the market. Unfortunately, the listing has no information about the specifications of the device.

Samsung’s A-series smartphones resemble scale-back variants of its Galaxy S-series flagship models. Noticeably, the Galaxy A80 featured a dedicated design; it’s expected that the upcoming A83 might also introduce something unique in terms of design and appearance.

However, since the brand has not even officially hinted at the device’s name yet, it remains unconfirmed; this is purely speculative at this stage. The report also claims that Samsung will take off covers from the Galaxy F55 5G smartphone on May 27 in India. In terms of specifications, it is almost identical to the Galaxy M55, which is available through Amazon in India.

Being an F-series phone, the F55 will be sold through Flipkart. It features a 6.7-inch FHD+ display along with a refresh rate of 120Hz AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, LPDDR4x RAM, and UFS 2.2 storage. The battery package includes 5,000mAh of power with the support of 45W fast charging. The camera setup includes a 50MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and a 50 MP selfie camera.
