Galaxy Z Flip 3 & Z Fold 3 Gets eSIM, Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS) Support Via June Update [Canada]

Recently in Canada, the Samsung Galaxy Z series received an OTA update that enables the long-awaited built-in eSIM, dual sim, and dual standby DSDS functionality in the devices this June 21.

The update for Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with firmware build no. F926WVLU1DVEE on Vidéotron network.

The update for Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes with firmware build no. F711WVLU2DVEE on Telus network.

According to the Changelog and user-posted screenshots on the Samsung’ r1′ community, this OTA rollout also brings several camera feature improvements as we have seen in other regions for the clamshell-designed foldable smartphones. This update will also include the June 2022 security patch, which includes fixes for dozens of security & privacy-related issues.

Following are the changes that this update brings :

Inbuilt hardware functionality activation; For both Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G & Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G.

  • eSIM support
  • Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) support

eSIM: Users need either a carrier’s app or a QR Code to use this function. The “eSIM” is an embedded SIM card with no physical SIM cards. No physical swapping is required.eSIM is available from selected carriers worldwide. This means users can install two separate SIM cards into their phones.

Dual-SIM Dual Standby: This enables the user to choose which of those two SIMs can place and receive calls while another is on standby.

Camera Improvements For Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G ;

  • The Night portrait feature has been enhanced.
  • The telephoto lens is supported in Pro mode.
  • The ‘Auto framing’ feature is supported in video mode and some video call apps.
  • The quality of pictures taken with social or camera apps downloaded from the application store has been improved.

Besides this, according to the Changelog, the Overall stability and security of both the devices have been improved with this patch. It also includes security and privacy issues that are not limited to. It can also include general bug fixes & other improvements.

The eSIM & DSDS functionality is already available in some other regions of the world as recently released in the US and, as expected, expanding to other regions such as this one.

Samsung has rolled out the One UI 6.1 update for multiple Galaxy devices, which will bring several new features that will enhance the overall user experience of the devices. It is worth noticing that the company has rolled out the update to several regions of last year’s flagship devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy S23 series, and Galaxy S23 FE. Now it has expanded the update to more regions.

As per the latest development, the company has now expanded the update to more countries, including South Korea and China. More specifically, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, which come with the firmware version numbers F946NKSU1CXCH and F731NKSU1CXCJ, Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra devices in South Korea are getting the same update with the firmware version numbers S911NKSU2CXCG, S916NKSU2CXCG, and S918NKSU2CXCG, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Chinese units of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy S23 are getting the One UI 6.1 update with the firmware version numbers F9460ZCU2CXCF and S91x0ZCU2CXCF.

One UI 6.1’s AI Features Arrive for Unlocked Galaxy S23 and Z Fold 5 in the US

The Galaxy S23 Series is the first contender to get the One UI 6.1 update, and the device has received the update initially. However, without wasting time, the company has already expanded the update for all the eligible Galaxy devices for the first phase, and with the gradual expansion, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 have started receiving the update in the US.

The update is now available for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra with the firmware version numbers S911U1UEU2CXCG, S916U1UEU2CXCG, and S918U1UEU2CXCG, respectively. Meanwhile, the unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 5 has received an update with the firmware version number F946U1UEU2CXCF. The update is coming in a nearly 3GB software package.

Galaxy S23 FE get Major One UI 6.1 update with Galaxy AI Features in Europe

Samsung’s most-awaited One UI 6.1 update is finally available for several devices. The company has already rolled out the update to all pre-decided devices that were selected to get the update in the first phase. The Galaxy S23 FE is also one of the devices that has already received the update in the US, now it has started receiving the update in Europe.

Notably, the Galaxy S23 FE grabbed the One UI 6.1 update in Europe; it carries the firmware version number S711BXXU2CXCF. It is still using the same security patch, which is the March 2024 security patch. The update is coming in a software package of nearly 3GB. 

According to the changelog, the update has brought several Galaxy AI features and several editing tools that will allow you to create more epic images. The update will also bring several customization options, which will be available under the different UI elements, including widgets, wallpaper, alarm alerts, stickers, calendars, and many more. Ultimately, the update has introduced a completely new experience for using Galaxy devices.
