Samsung Galaxy S9 Updates By Surprise: May 2022 Security Firmware

Published

on

Samsung announced the discontinuation of support for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ a few months ago, but the company has nonetheless released a new security update for top-of-the-range smartphones of 2018.

And so in recent hours the release of a new update has been launched for these two iconic smartphones of the Korean giant, at least with regard to the versions branded by Samsung Data Base (although it is likely that this update will then be extended globally).

The update released by Samsung matches the G9600ZHU9FVF2 & G9650ZHU9FVF2 build and is directed at Galaxy S9 and S9+. This is the update of Android security patches in May 2022, which are expected to address about 50 OS vulnerabilities.

The update is now being distributed through OTA for users in Brazil and is a part of Samsung’s software support strategy. The deployment is anticipated to include the US and Europe within the next several days.

The support cycle of these Samsung devices is therefore close in style: remember that the last major update arrived on the S9 and S9+ was Android 10.

Samsung has rolled out the One UI 6.1 update for all the eligible Galaxy flagship devices that have been released since 2021; however, some devices have only received the update in South Korea till now. But the good news is that gradually, the company has expanded to some devices like the Galaxy S22 series in more countries.

The Galaxy S22 series devices have started receiving the UI 6.1 update in Europe. The devices are spotted receiving new updates with the firmware version number S90*BXXU9EXE1. With the latest update, users will get several new features coming with the latest UI, but it doesn’t bring the May 2024 security patch.

The Galaxy S22 gets all Galaxy AI features

Samsung has introduced several Galaxy AI features with its Galaxy S24 series devices, and now with the One UI 6.1 update, it has brought all those features to the Galaxy S22 series devices as well. With the new Galaxy AI features, users are now able to get a whole new experience in communication and take advantage of several utilities to get more productive.

For instance, you can use Note Assist to easily arrange and format notes in one click. With browsing assist, you can take a useful summarization and translation of a webpage to get the information more quickly. Similarly, there are many Galaxy AI features that have been introduced that unlock the potential of several features.

If you are using the Galaxy S22 series device in Europe, then you can easily take advantage of all the Galaxy AI features by updating your device to One UI 6.1. To do that, just follow these simple steps: First, go to the system settings, then tap on the software update menu. Now,  click on the download and install option. If it shows a new update available, hit the download button.

After introducing the May 2024 security patch update in the US region for the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung has expanded the latest security update to the European region as well. It is in the initial stage, so the update is live for limited units, but it will be fully expanded to the whole region in the coming days.

Notably, the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are getting the May 2024 security patch in Europe with the firmware version numbers S921BXXS2AXD6, S926BXXS2AXD6, and S928BXXS2AXD6, respectively. The latest update for the Galaxy S24 brings a new set of security enhancements. In a nutshell, there are more than 50 fixes, and Google has included 31 fixes that target bringing extra protection to the Android ecosystem. Along with this, the Korean giant also added 25 more patches that enhance the security of Galaxy devices exclusively.

Moreover, the latest update is coming with a software package of 452.81 MB, which indicates that Samsung may not add any innovative changes for smartphones, but it is expected that the latest software may bring some internal function improvements that will level your experience while using the device.

If you are using the Galaxy S24 device in Europe, a new notification should arrive on your smartphone to alert you about fresh software availability. But if you don’t receive any such notification, you can also check it manually by navigating to the system settings and selecting the software update menu.

Samsung Tests New Firmware for Galaxy XCover 5, Potential Camera Fix

Published

Last week we reported about the problems faced by Galaxy XCover 5 users after installing the One UI 6.0 update. Now it seems that the company may start working to bring improvements with the upcoming update.

For your information, after installing the One UI 6.0 and Android 14 update on the Galaxy XCover 5, users have faced an annoying camera, which has affected the autofocus functionality of the camera, and therefore users are not able to capture sharp photos.

Now, according to the Galaxy Club, Samsung is working on developing a new Android 14 firmware for the rugged smartphone. However, the Korean giant hasn’t confirmed it officially yet, but most probably the new firmware should bring fixes to the camera functioning of the devices.

As of now, there is no information available about the availability of the next significant update. However, when Samsung starts rolling out, we will immediately update you about it, so stay tuned.

It is worth noticing that the Galaxy XCover 5 is one of those devices that got the major One UI 6.0 update pretty late. Samsung has already started rolling out the One UI 6.1 update for several eligible devices. The rugged device is also eligible to get the same update, but based on the speed of expansion of One UI 6.1, it seems like the device may not receive the update anytime soon.
