Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro are the most comprehensive and advanced smartwatches Samsung has ever produced. The combination of the Korean company’s build quality and the capabilities of Wear OS 3.5 – with One UI Watch 4.5 customization – promises one of the absolute best user experiences for the wearable world.
Compared to the Galaxy Watch4, the battery has been increased by 13% and the charging speed is 30% higher. On Galaxy Watch5 it only takes eight minutes of charging to perform an eight-hour sleep tracking. In addition, the new sapphire crystal display offers greater external resistance (+60%) for bumps and falls.
The unique Samsung BioActive sensor, already on the Galaxy Watch4, can handle three of the internal sensors — Heart Rate (Optical), Electrical Heart Signal, and Bioelectric Impedance Analysis — to track all health and fitness functions. You can, for example, detect your heart rate, blood oxygen levels, stress levels, but also check your blood pressure and an electrocardiogram directly to your wrist.
There are also many new features for post-workout, rest and recovery, such as the body composition measurement tool and personalized advice on the amount of water to be taken based on fluids lost by sweating. Plus, you can keep tabs on your sleep quality through the Sleep Scores feature, which tells you how well you can sleep each night.
With this version of the operating system it will be possible to use Google Maps navigation directly on your wrist, without the need to connect your smartphone. Finally, many new native apps for WearOS are now supported, such as SoundCloud and Deezer.
Differences: Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro
Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro are very similar devices when it comes to internal hardware, but they have so many small differences in aesthetics, materials, size, and additional functionality.
First, the basic Galaxy Watch5 comes in two variants, the 40mm case and the other 44mm case, while the Galaxy Watch5 Pro has only one 45mm size. As you can see from the list of technical features at the top, the size and weight are also different, with the Pro model being larger than the others.
The display is a 1.2″ 396×396 pixel panel for the 40mm Galaxy Watch5, but it is the same on both the 44mm Galaxy Watch5 and the Galaxy Watch5 Pro: in this case we are talking about a 1.4″ panel at 450×450 pixel resolution.
The only hardware difference is the built-in battery, different on each model: 284 mAh for 40mm Galaxy Watch5, 410mAh for 44mm Galaxy Watch5, and 590mAh for Galaxy Watch5 Pro.
The Galaxy Watch5 Pro is the most rugged in the batch, because it’s built using a reinforced sapphire crystal for the display and a titanium case. Plus, use a next-generation D-Buckle Sport Band. Only on the Pro you can use the GPX service, especially useful for excursions in nature: it supports route tracking, Turn-by-turn navigation so you don’t get lost and the Track back feature to get home safely.
