Galaxy S21 FE gets February 2023 security update

Samsung is now getting back to work which includes the distribution of a new security update; after releasing the Galaxy S23 in the unpacked event, the company is now rolling out the new security update for its devices after updating the Note 20 series in February 2023 devices the Korean giant is expanding the same update to the Galaxy S21 FE variant.

Samsung recently shared the February 2023 security update details, including several security fixes and improvements, including patches for two critical vulnerabilities in the Android operating system.

As of now, the Exynos variant of Galaxy S21 FE is receiving the February 2023 security patch update; the update is spotted in the Brazil region devices with model number SM-G990E. However, it is expected to expand to other regions in the next few days.

Users who own Galaxy S21 FE devices can identify the update by its build number G990EXXS3DWAA; the update brings the support of the February 2023 security patch, which is a regular monthly update, that doesn’t bring any extra functionality or features for your devices; it comes with some patches that fix several bugs so improves the overall security of the device.

The Galaxy S21 FE was launched back in 2022 and came with Android 12 on board, later the device grabbed the new Android update Android 13, and now the device is the top contender to receive the One UI 5.1 update; however, it’s up to the Samsung that which the company chooses to release the latest UI update to which device. As the device is launched just before the commitment of Samsung to give four Android updates to devices, it may be eligible to get two more Android updates up to Android 15. However, the device will receive some more security updates for three years.

After introducing the April 2024 security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 4Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy Z Fold 3 devices, Samsung has now made the April 2024 security patch update live for the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy S22, and Galaxy S21 smartphones in South Korea. Earlier, the company had already distributed the same update for these smartphones in some regions.

Notably, the Galaxy S23 FE is getting the April 2024 security patch update in South Korea with the firmware version number S711NKSS1BXD5. For the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, the update is coming with the firmware version numbers S901NKSU3DXD3, S906NKSU3DXD3, and S908NKSU3DXD3, respectively. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra are getting the same update with firmware version numbers G991NKSU4FXD3, G996NKSU4FXD3, and G998NKSU4FXD3, respectively.

The April 2024 update brings new security-related enhancements; as per the documentation, there are more than 40 fixes introduced. Google has included 27 fixes that will resolve issues in the Android OS. Along with this, Samsung has also added 17 patches that will fix the issues found in Galaxy devices exclusively.

Along with this, Samsung has also introduced a mobile ID function for the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 users. With this function, users will be able to carry their driving license and national veteran registration card in the Samsung Wallet.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is one of the flagship smartphones from the Korean giant; it was launched back last year and comes with One UI 5.1 based on Android 13 preinstalled. As per the latest development, the device has already received some significant updates in the form of One UI 6.0 and One UI 6.1 based on Android 14. With the continuation, the device is getting a new security update in the form of the April 2024 patch.

Notably, the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra are getting new updates in South Korea with these firmware version numbers: S911NKSS2CXD5, S916NKSS2CXD5, and S918NKSS2CXD5, respectively. With the latest update, users will get some security-related enhancements.
