Samsung completed industry’s first GDDR7 DRAM chip development
Samsung’s growth in the semiconductor field has been quite notable in recent years, and it attained enormous growth by becoming a leading manufacturer in the semiconductor industry internationally. The firm has made an official announcement that it has accomplished the evolution of the GDDR7 memory chip, the industry’s first Graphics Double Data Rate 7 DRAM.
Most next-generation graphics cards will most likely use GDDR7, the latest generation of GPU RAM, to increase its available bandwidth and memory capacity. The need for this memory chip has become crucial as gamers now want more VRAM due to the increased demands that current games have on graphics hardware.

Analyzing the specifications it provides, a data transmission rate of 32 GT/s and Pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM3) signaling to replace Non-Return to Zero (NRZ) because, within the same signaling cycle, PAM3 permits 50% more data transmission than NRZ. With a 20% increase in power efficiency and a 40% performance jump over GDDR6, with these specifications, Samsung claims that the GDDR7 DRAM is more enhanced than the existing fastest 24 Gbps GDDR6 DRAM.
Initially, the new device is expected to have a transfer rate of up to 32 Gbps, which is a 33% increase over GDDR6 memory, and up to 1.5 TB/s of bandwidth on a 384-bit bus interface solution which is, in turn, 1.4 times more than that of GDDR6, which has a bandwidth of 1.1 TB/s. An epoxy molding compound (EMC) has been used, made from the major components Silica, hardener, epoxy resin, and other additives; it efficiently shields semiconductor circuits from environmental elements, including moisture, heat, and shock.

Yongcheol Bae, Executive Vice President of the Memory Product Planning Team at Samsung Electronics, stated,”Our GDDR7 DRAM will help elevate user experiences in areas that require outstanding graphics performance, such as workstations, PCs and game consoles, and is expected to expand into future applications such as AI, high-performance computing (HPC) and automotive vehicles. The next-generation graphics DRAM will be brought to market in line with industry demand and we plan on continuing our leadership in the space.”
