Samsung Galaxy S20 gets October 2023 update
Samsung introduced the Galaxy S20 series devices back in 2020 with Android 10 preinstalled, and as the company promised to give at least three Android updates, the device has already received them all. Currently, it is running on Android 13, which is the last major update for the device. However, the device is still eligible to get a new security update, so to keep its promise, the company is again releasing the latest security patch in the form of October 2023.
Notably, the Galaxy S20 series devices are getting the October 2023 update in several European and Latin American countries. To identify the latest update, you can check the firmware version numbers.
The LTE variant of the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+ variant in Europe are getting the update with firmware version numbers G980FXXSIHWI7 and G985FXXSIHWI7, respectively. While the 5G variant Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra come with firmware version numbers G981BXXSIHWI7, G986BXXSIHWI7 and G988BXXSIHWI7 respectively. The FE version of the Galaxy S20 also grabbed the same update in the US.
The October 2023 update doesn’t include any special features; it is a standard security patch update that only aims to get enhancements for the security of Galaxy devices. According to the official documentation, there are more than four dozenfixes introduced, of which 34 were added by Google, which resolved the issues related to the Android OS. Along with this, Samsung also added 12 more patches that exclusively fix the security vulnerabilities related to the Galaxy devices.
If you are using a Galaxy S20 series device in the above-mentioned region, then you should start getting notifications about the new update. If you haven’t gotten the notification yet, you can manually check the update by going to the software update menu in the main system settings.
