Samsung Electronics is expanding its storage device area by introducing a brand new SSD gadget named the SSD 990 EVO.

Samsung announced its SSD 990 EVO, which has the power to deliver powerful performance along with better energy efficiency. This is undoubtedly dedicated to those who are addicted to gaming, work, and video/photo editing.

The brand aims to enhance the computing experience with this new SSD 990 EVO. This delivers the power package of balanced performance, power efficiency, and reliability, making it a flexible choice for the latest interface that is perfect for multiple day-to-day tasks, for instance, gaming, business workflow, and creative endeavors.

SSD 990 EVO Performance

The brand new edition of the 990 EVO improved performance by up to 43% as compared to the previous model, the 970 EVO Plus.

  • Sequential read speeds arrive at up to 5,000 MB/s.
  • Write speeds up to 4,200 MB/s
  • Random read speed: 700K input/output operations per second (IOPS)
  • Random write speed: 800K IOPS

For direct link to the host processor’s DRAM, the brand uses Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology; the SSD can achieve optimized performance even with a DRAM-less design. Basically, this will result in faster loading speeds for games and swift access to larger files.

SSD 990 EVO: Improves Power Efficiency and Smart Thermal Solution

The recently launched SSD 990 EVO enhanced power efficiency by up to 70% as compared to its predecessor, the 970 EVO Plus. This permits users to extend their usage on PCs without constant concern for battery life. Plus, it also supports Modern Standby, which has the power to enable an instant on or off function alongside uninterrupted internet connectivity and flawless notification reception, noticeably in low-power states as well.

Its heat spreader label effectively adjusts the thermal condition on the NAND chip, which permits the operations to consistently run at their highest levels without even compromising drive integrity.

SSD 990 EVO supports both PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 interfaces. Also,  as per the convenience and requirements of today’s PCs, the 990 EVO supports PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, whereas it also delivers compatibility alongside thermal control and power savings for the PCIe 5.0 interface in forthcoming applications.

The brand is offering the 990 EVO in two variants based on capacity: 1TB and 2TB options. At the moment, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 990 EVO appears to be $124.99 for the 1TB variant and $209.99 for the 2TB variant.

Samsung Is Setting Up For ‘Galaxy Glasses’; New Patent

Samsung has bigger plans to expand its smart wearable family beyond expectations, as Galaxy Glasses are next in line.

Samsung, apart from the forthcoming sixth-generation foldable Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 Galaxy Ringdevices, which are supposed to debut at the Galaxy Unpacked Event 2024 in July, is also busy expanding the wearable area by debuting a brand new smart glasses.

Back in 2023, Samsung had already trademarked the name for its smart glasses, Galaxy Glasses, from which reports regarding this are blowing. And now the recent reports are unveiling that Samsung has now filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization for its smart glasses.

It is being speculated by Patently Apple that the patent displays the potential design of smart glasses by Samsung along with its charging case. Although the design of the glasses does not appear to be too different from the usual spectacles, For more details, the patent reveals some technical details about it.

The patent is revealing that the lenses are housed in their default place, but the left rim of them has magnetic connection points that will permit the glasses to charge while placed on their cover. The batteries are placed at each temple tip. Curiously, the patent makes no mention of cameras or sensors—components generally expected in XR devices.

Probably the patent will focus simply on the physical design. Samsung might file separate subsequent patents covering the more complex technical aspects of an invention. For now, nothing more has been revealed; the patent only reveals some insights, and it’s too early to say if Samsung will launch this product.

However, Samsung has not unveiled anything regarding the smartphone officially yet, but it is expected that some news from Tipster and the brand will get revealed soon.
