Samsung Electronics is shaking hands with British Gas to empower customers to better manage their energy use in homes around Britain.

Samsung Electronics announced that it is partnering with British Gas. This new opening move is for an expansion of SmartThings Energy to integrate British Gas’ PeakSave incentive program. This will allow users to make their homes more energy efficient with less intervention.

The Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics stated that “as one of the U.K.’s most trusted brands, British Gas is the perfect fit for us as an innovative technology business.”

However, British Gas is one of the leading suppliers of energy as well as home services, and it has been providing these services to Britain’s homes for over 200 years. This is a lengthy era. Apart from this, it is also focused on getting the U.K. to net zero by 2050 by helping customers reduce their homes’ carbon footprints with a range of energy-efficient house enhancements.

As a result, the collaborative relationship is the meshing of SmartThings Energy’s Auto Demand Response feature coupled with British Gas’ PeakSave in Great Britain, initially and now onwards. PeakSave rewards British Gas customers for shifting their electricity usage during peak hours while demand for electricity is high. Customers can easily take advantage of the program through SmartThings Energy’s support for Auto DR, which will automatically adjust the operating modes of appliances while an event is triggered. Customers can then earn money even for using less electricity during the events.

Noticeably, for activating SmartThings Energy’s Auto DR features, depending on the type of appliance, there are a few different methods.

  • First, it can automatically turn on the AI Energy Mode in SmartThings Energy to store extra energy use in the supported appliances.
  • The second method, with the power-off function, allows the users to consume less energy by having their appliances turned off when appropriate, which includes particular third-party lights and plugs.
  • The last method is that one can also achieve savings by using smart temperature adjustment for EHS gadgets and thermostats.

It is also known that Samsung has already introduced its DR service in a few countable regions, which include Seoul, California, and New York, in 2023.
