Samsung Galaxy AI feature will not be available for Galaxy devices released before 2023 – Here’s why?
Samsung has introduced several new features and improvements for the Galaxy devices with the latest One UI 6.1 update. As of now, the update has only appeared on the Galaxy S24 devices. But with the new One UI update, a lot of new features have arrived, including several new AI features. But there is some bad news for the Galaxy users: all these features will not be available for all the One UI 6.1 eligible devices.
There are multiple AI features available under One UI 6.1, such as live call translation, chat assist, transcript assist, generative editing, and many more. Moving forward, the company will provide these features to a limited number of devices, including the Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy S23 FE, the Galaxy Tab S9, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, etc.
But it is worth noticing that the company will not provide these features to older devices, including the Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, etc. According to the information I got from TechRadar, Samsung has confirmed that it won’t be changing it anytime soon.
For your information, we are sharing a part of communication where the head of customer experience, Patric Chomet, explains the reason for not expanding the AI features to the Galaxy devices:
Over time, we aim to ensure that our AI experiences can rely on mobile performance, which enables CPU and GPU capability. So for now, we are learning; we are going step-by-step. We know that Galaxy AI works well on the Galaxy S24 series, and we know it will work well on the Galaxy S23 series. But we don’t know what the intensity of AI usage will be for the average customer or how that intensity will impact on-device resources and cloud resources.
Number one, we want to secure the quality and performance of what we deploy. Then we will learn how people use [these features] and tune the performance. Number two, we will deploy [Galaxy AI] on a second set of devices—specifically, the S23, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9—to see how it works.
While if we analyze three reasons, here the one key is that he mentioned that whether or not the device performance and handles the AI features, the S23 Fe is an odd device because it is equipped with the Exynos 2200 chipset, which is found in the Galaxy S22 for some reasons, so it is clear that these features don’t have any problems with hardware, but the possible reason could be the implantation cost, as some of the features are world-wide on the cloud, so it may cost the company more because it will be based on Google Gemini models that may be available.
