Beyond the question, Samsung is one of the toughest competitors in the tech industry, whether we talk about the foldable market or the regular smartphone market. Since the brand has already achieved green flags in the foldable market, Now it’s working on introducing a rollable display.

Rollable Display, Yes! You read that. The recent reports indicate that the brand is working on a rollable display. Foldable stands for the device we can fold, just as rollable stands for the device we can roll.

The latest hybrid device from Samsung combines both foldable and rollable characteristics.

Here’s the question: Why rollable when there is foldable?

So, the simple answer is that book-style foldable devices are not that efficient. Foldable devices feature two screens—internal and external—and you can only use one screen at a time. The presence of two screens partially makes the foldable devices not essentially thick.

A post on X shared by @xleaks7 and reports of Calibre cleaning state that Samsung’s upcoming hybrid tablet will appear as a combo of foldable and rollable without any external screen. This makes it pretty clear that the brand is preparing for the rollable device.

Here, Samsung’s upcoming rollable terms refer to a device that will have only one display, and people who opt for a bigger display can simply slide the OLED panel kept hidden inside the device. By this mechanism, it appears that the brand just aims to eliminate the need for two dedicated displays to have a larger screen.

The upcoming rollable device from Samsung essentially reminds me of a tablet, as it’s been revealed in the images. This rollable device is quite similar to an iPad mini alternative, a tablet that can fit in a pocket effortlessly but has a large display with the help of a slide mechanism added to allow you to use the device’s full potential.

However, the Chinese OEMs have been attempting to decrease the thickness of foldable smartphones; the Korean brand’s Galaxy Z Fold series still has a bulky design; probably Samsung is gearing up to introduce a device with a fine rollable design in the industry.
