The two tough competitors in the tech industry are obviously Apple and Samsung. Plus, both of them have a vast range of fans, and usually both of them come across each other’s paths. This time, Apple has cut the way for Samsung by selling more smartphones globally.
If the recent reports are to be believed, the fruit company, for the very first time after two years, has sold more smartphones globally as compared to the Korean brand ‘Samsung’ last year. Even in Europe, which is usually considered a stronghold of Samsung. And with this prospect, Apple became the number one smartphone brand in the final quarter of last year.
According to the latest shipment figures from market research firm Canalys, Apple will replace Samsung to become the biggest smartphone brand in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2023. The marketers say that Apple shipped 12.4 million iPhones in Europe by the end of 2023, whereas Samsung only shipped 10.8 million smartphones.
The shipment of Apple increased by 1%, but the shipment of Samsung decreased by 12% as compared to Q4 2022. As a result, Apple’s smartphone market share in Europe reached 33%, whereas Samsung’s market share dwindled to 28%. The overall European smartphone market felt a drop in shipments by 3% at the end of 2023 as compared to 2022.
On the other hand, Xiaomi was in third place in Europe with 6 million smartphone shipments in Q4 2023, and Motorola ranked fourth with 2 million phones. Honor shipped 1.1 million smartphones, and it reached a massive rise of 116% as compared to Q4 2022 in 2023. Then the rest of the other smartphone brands collectively shipped 5.5 million phones in Q4 2023.
Somehow, the Korean brand still managed to be the number one smartphone maker in Europe when you take a look at the number for the entire year. Also back in 2023, the Korean giants shipped 43.7 million smartphones, whereas Apple ranked second with 34.6 million iPhone shipments during the same interval. And the cycle continues, since it’s a race of two tough competitors and anyone has to be placed first.
