Meta Announces Removal of Facebook News Tab in Australia and the US
Meta-owned Facebook, back in 2019, introduced News Feed with a huge investment, which is about to shut down permanently in April.
This is being speculated by the social network giant, which is revealing that Facebook News will be closed at the beginning of April in both the United States and Australia. Although this decision has come into existence a couple of months after last year’s decision to shut down the service in other countries, which include the United Kingdom, France, and Germany,.
Here’s the question: what’s the actual reason behind shutting down Facebook’s News Feed?
So the simple answer is just to optimize the company’s investments. As per the announcement through the official page, the decision to drop Facebook News is just a part of the strategies aimed at optimizing the investment of the brand and improving the services that are most preferred by the users.
Meanwhile, it appears that back in 2023, the number of people who used Facebook News in Australia and the US dropped by more than 80%, which is enough to shut down the service, although this may be due to the fact that the content of this service is not what users generally prefer for a social network.
The official documentation pointed out that the changes affecting Facebook News will have no impact on Meta’s products and services in the mentioned regions, whereas people will still have the power to view links to news articles on Facebook. Also, the news publishers will continue to have access to their Facebook accounts and pages; not only this, but they can also post links to their stories and prompt people to visit their websites in the same manner that any other particular or organization can.
News organizations will also have the power to use products such as Reels and Meta’s advertising systems to reach a wider audience and drive people to their websites.
