Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Telephoto Lenses Unused in Portrait Video Mode – Zooming Digitally

Published

on

Samsung is undoubtedly rocked in terms of the top-notch performance of its camera in its flagship series devices, specifically the Galaxy S series devices. With the Galaxy S23 Ultra model, the company has already reached peak camera performance, so therefore it has continued to bring the same camera setup with a 200 MP sensor. However, with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, we have seen some minor improvements.

One of the noticeable improvements is the 5X Telephoto lens, which makes zooming more interactive and brings more quality photos. The company has used the 50MP lens, which makes it able to capture more details. However, there are some problems with the functionality of the telephoto lens when you switch them in portrait video mode. The predecessor featured a 10MP 3X telephoto lens for portrait video recording.

For explanation, when we use Potrait mode in the Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone, we get the 1X, 2X, and 3X options for zooming level in the photo and video recording, respectively.

Galaxy S24 Ultra Comes with 3X and 5X Telephoto Lenses, But Where’s the Zoom in Portrait Videos?

The Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with improved hardware and a 5X Telephoto lens, but it remains unused. When you record the portrait video and try to zoom in, more specifically switching lenses to 2X or 3X icons, it doesn’t manage to shoot on the preferred Zoom Telephoto lenses; it uses the main 200MP camera and zooms digitally to 2X or 3X.

We tested the feature thoroughly on the Galaxy S23 Ultra in portrait video mode. Everything worked perfectly, capturing 1x with the main camera and 3x using the dedicated telephoto lens. However, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is different. It uses digital zoom on the main camera to capture 1x, 2x, and 3x portrait videos.

On the other hand, when you use the portrait video mode on the Galaxy S24 Ultra device and zoom in, it doesn’t switch the lens and uses only the main camera lens and provides digital zooming, which doesn’t bring top quality. However, due to the proper software processing, the device still manages to give a quality photo. In conclusion, it may be some software error for the Galaxy S24 Ultra only, because in other modes the lens is working properly.

As far as the solution is concerned, there is no information available right now. It looks like, currently, there is no information available regarding the address of this issue; probably there are very few users who have noticed it. If you are also having the same issue, let us know in the comments below.

Published

on

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is one of the most successful devices of the year, whether in terms of its pre-booking or in terms of its unit sales. The device has performed better than its predecessor. The reason behind it lies not only in the hardware perspective but also in the software, which has brought the new Galaxy AI features to new hype among consumers.

According to counterpoint research, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is listed among the top ten best smartphones, where it is the best Android device. Going into details, the Galaxy S24 ranks in fifth place immediately after Apple’s latest smartphones. The iPhone 15 Pro Max ranked first with 4.4% market share, the iPhone 15 ranked second with 4.3% market share, the iPhone Pro ranked third with 3.7% market share, and the iPhone 14 ranked fourth with 1.9% share of sales. Then, in the fifth position, the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes in with 1.9% of sales.

At first sight, it looks like Apple is significantly ahead of Samsung in terms of sales, but if you go in detail, Samsung not only provides smartphones in the high-end category but also makes several smartphones according to their affordability for a larger consumer base. Let’s explore the data about some non- flagship devices as well.

Non-flagship devices also secure a position in the top 10

Apart from the Galaxy S24 ultra device, there are other affordable devices from Samsung that also top the top ten list of sales. The Galaxy A15 5G secures the 6th position, the Galaxy A54 is in the 7th position, and the Galaxy A34 appears in the 10th position. The list ultimately depicts the dominance of Samsung and the iPhone in the global smartphone markets. However, Samsung has scope to capture the market for Android devices.

Samsung is all set to debut its sixth-generation foldable smartphone with the Galaxy Watch 7 series and the Galaxy Ring at the Galaxy Unpacked event in July. On another note, it is setting up to expand its flagship S series by introducing the Galaxy S25 series, which includes three variants: Ultra, Plus, and Base.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Could Reportedly Bring 3000 Nits OLED Display

Now the reports are reporting that the Galaxy S25 Ultra could have a 3000 nits OLED display. Whereas its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, features 2600 units of peak brightness panels, This means that the Galaxy S25 Ultra would arrive with 400 nits more as compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

A post on X was shared by a tipster claiming that Samsung is gearing up to bring an upgraded display with 3000 nits of peak brightness to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The rest of the two variants—the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus—may use a similar panel with 2600 nits of brightness since the entire Galaxy S24 lineup features the same 2600 nits of peak brightness.

Apart from this, recently it has also been reported that the Galaxy S25 could bring a ‘Batter AI’ feature to upgrade battery performance. Samsung debuted its Galaxy S24 Ultra as a flagship device and received immensely positive reviews all around. Despite being high-end, it has a few issues, and a tipster poked at it for false advertising.

Transparently, the Galaxy S24 Ultra brought dozens of novelties, but unfortunately, it had a few issues. Samsung didn’t care and fixed most of them with the initial software updates. But some issues are yet to be fixed, and a well-known popular tipster takes it as a golden opportunity and has called for a class action lawsuit against Samsung for false advertising.

A post on X shared by a tipster (via- SamMobile), unveiled that the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s screen feels grainy at low brightness levels, and Samsung has not acknowledged the issue yet, which seems quite disappointing. Not only this, but a tipster called Samsung a fraud just because of the grainy screen issue that created inconvenience for some units.

The smartphone’s camera has defective color shades, and its telephoto camera oversharpens things. The long-telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom on the phone has issues regarding hardware, creating white objects to “glow.” He may be referring to the potential issue of overexposing white or light-colored subjects. Apart from all this, he also claims that the outcome of the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s telephoto camera doesn’t match exactly what Samsung claims in the advertisement.

According to the tipster, the bottom loudspeaker of the phone has a design defect, and the S Pen slot appears crooked. But despite all of these issues, the Galaxy S24 series breaks the sales record of its predecessor. Regarding all these issues, the tipster has requested that American users not purchase the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
