YouTube could introduce a sleep timer for the Android app
YouTube is looking forward to expanding the facilities and functionalities of the Android application by adding a new feature called a sleep timer.
Sleep timers are general features on podcast and music streaming apps that help you specify when playback stops. This is quite a convenient feature for bedtime scenarios, as the name implies, automatically stopping playback after you have fallen asleep. Somehow, YouTube lacks this feature, but a new report says that YouTube is working on this option.
If the teardown of the YouTube app for Android with the version number 19.25.33 is to be believed, there is evidence suggesting an upcoming timer feature. The references suggest that you can set particular hours or minutes left until playback stops. There’s also a “sleep_timer_notification_channel_name” mention, which hints that the timer will be displayed as a notification.
The forthcoming sleep timer feature was found in the YouTube for Android app; however, the brand has already introduced the same feature on YouTube Music, and Android users rely on workarounds for similar functionality. This feature is beneficial in scenes where you fall asleep suddenly. This feature will help to stop playback at the end of the video, similar to how YouTube Music stops at the end of the song.
This feature will indirectly save battery consumption by stopping playing to implement their sleep timer for media playback. However, YouTube has not officially confirmed this feature yet, but the report suggests that this feature is under development. The report also suggests that the YouTube app’s sleep time eventually gains an “end of video” option, much like YouTube Music’s.
