Google Wallet gets Passport support in the US

Google is expanding its Google Wallet functionality, and it is looking forward to offering support for passports in Google Wallet.
Meanwhile, Italy is setting up to upgrade its digital wallet app called It Wallet, which permits users to upload documents through the IO application. On the other side, Google is also gearing up to add support for passports in Google Wallet.
A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Google Wallet supports digital passports, with a particular feature that should permit users to create an ID pass to be used at particular checkpoints. Initially, this feature was codenamed ‘Picard’, but now the new report has revealed the proper name, ‘Passport.’

However, a digital passport would not completely replace the physical one, but it could still be useful in specific scenes; for instance, airports with digital scanners and more. Regarding this, Google itself says that it’s quite better to keep the paper one with you in case of need.
It is reported that this feature is reserved for the US only. Somewhere, it is expected that the company may expand this feature over time. At the time, the feature was not even available to all US users. The exact release time for this is yet to be announced. On the other side, in Italy, it seems that in the coming time, ‘It Wallet’ will have the compatibility to integrate the digital version of the passport. If the reports are to be believed, it will start with the health card, driving license, and European disability card, arriving at the identity card later this year.
In the upcoming months, the digital wallet could become independent of the IO app, and it will be able to upload other types of documents, such as passports.
