Samsung Display announces stretchable Micro LED display
Samsung Display is expanding its ways to increase the advancement to maintain its legacy. It now unveils a stretchable Micro LED display.
Samsung showcased its stretchable microLED display at IMID. It’s the first time the company has taken open steps towards the stretchable Mirco LED display technology. This display showcased the geography and seasons of Jeju Island.
Samsung used YouTube as a platform to unveil its stretchable micro LED display. The company claims that you can stretch the stretchable Micro LED display up to 1.25x its original size (25% elongation) while maintaining a pixel density of 120 PPI, the highest among similar products in the industry.
Strechable displays will be beneficial for building 3D buttons or applied to irregular surfaces such as clothing, furniture, and buildings. The company introduced the stretchable OLED technology initially back in 2017.
Apart from this, the brand also showcased a 31.5-inch QD-OLED monitor with support for UHD resolution and 140 PPI pixel density. The brand has already started mass production late last year and was awarded “Display of the Year” at IMID 2024. On the other side, Korea’s LG Display also introduced its W-OLED panels utilizing “Meta Technology 2.0.”
The technology is capable of achieving a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. It has the highest brightness among existing OLED TV panels by combining MLA+ with a luminance optimization algorithm.
