Samsung faces $118 Million fine in patent battle
Samsung is going through a tough phase as it was ordered to pay $118 million as a fine in damages to Netlist over a patent infringement lawsuit. Now it is planning to appeal the verdict and request a retrial.
The US court jury has announced that Samsung is to pay a $118 million fine due to damages in Netlist over a patent infringement lawsuit. The reason behind this fine is that a Texas federal court jury found Samsung guilty of infringing on Netlist’s patents related to data processing technology.
Apart from the brand being found guilty of infringing, the jury also addressed that the Korean tech giant’s infringement was intentional, potentially tripling the damages awarded. However, the US firm Netlist stood strong against Samsung Elec by filing a lawsuit in 2022.
Netlist also claimed that the memory technology of Samsung, which is used in cloud computing servers, violated its patents. The company also stated that its innovations increase the power efficiency of memory modules and authorize users to “derive useful information from vast amounts of data in a shorter period.”
Regarding this, the Korean tech brand also filed a related lawsuit in Delaware court trying to prove that Netlist has violated its obligation to offer fair licenses for the technology required to comply with international standards.
