While Samsung was the first to set a new trend in the smartphone industry by introducing its first commercially available phone, the Galaxy Round (in October 2013) with a curved display, the main aim was to seek consumers’ interest and eventually win the innovation war by expanding its lead in the industry. However, as the years passed by, the trend also changed with time, and now, flat displays are the latest trend!

With Samsung ruling over other Android smartphone partners in the smartphone industry for years, several other brands are certainly entering into the market with the trend of equipping flat screen displays on their smartphones.

As mentioned, Samsung created a trend of smartphones boosting curved displays and ruled the overall market across the world; however, this trend ended up a generation of curved displays from 2024 (with the Galaxy S23 Ultra being the last model to come with a curved display).

Similar is the case with the smartphone’s display, while flat displays are the latest trend. Since trends are made and get broken with something new yet exciting hitting the news headlines, marking the introduction of a new era of smartphones with flat displays.  Samsung has always been the leading brand when it comes to innovation, and now, other brands are gradually getting involved with the current trend of flat displays.

For reference, OnePlus ended the curved display trend with the last OnePlus 12 series, and its newer OnePlus 13 features a flat display, while it is further followed by Xiaomi, with the Redmi Note 14 series equipped with the curved display for the last time. Alternatively, Apple never took part in the curved display trend, though.

This is due to the fact that flat displays, of course, offer several advantages over the curved ones since they are more affordable to manufacture, less prone to damage, and lastly, they allow much better display of the content at the edges with the bezels becoming narrower than before.
