Samsung’s top-notch Galaxy S25 series is already here with various amazing features, while the smartphones will hit the retail stores on 7th February. At the same time, the company is continuing with the January 2025 security update to its Galaxy devices, while this time, the 2020 flagships have started receiving the patch in the US.

The 2020 Galaxy S series units, the S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra, have started receiving the January 2025 security update, which is now available for both the carrier-locked and unlocked phones in the US.

The software for the carrier-locked (T-Mobile, USCellular, MetroPCS, and Spectrum Mobile) Galaxy S20 series phones can be easily recognized with the G981USQSCHXL1, G986USQSCHXL1, and G988USQSCHXL1 version numbers, while the carrier-unlocked units have the G981U1UESCHXL1, G986U1UESCHXL1, and G988U1UESCHXL1 build numbers.

Meanwhile, the Android security patch for January 2025, however, doesn’t mention any major features and changes, but it primarily focuses on improving the overall system security.

It significantly integrates various fixes for all the security vulnerabilities from both Google and Samsung collectively that are addressed in the previous version to provide a more safe and secure user experience while also protecting the device against potential threats.

Alternatively, the update further adds stability to the overall system behavior for efficient functionality. It brings several performance optimizations, applies all the security patches, and offers more improved features that in turn help users to have a more smooth, stable, and optimized experience.
