Galaxy S25 Becomes First Samsung Phone to Support Satellite Messaging in Canada

Samsung Galaxy users residing in Canada, get ready to try satellite connectivity services on your devices, as Rogers has recently launched a new satellite-to-mobile text messaging service for all Canadians.

Rogers in the Canadian market marked it as the first wireless carrier to offer direct satellite connectivity to smartphones. Currently, this next-generation wireless technology is available in a beta trial for eligible Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S25.

Since the service is in an early stage, as of now, it supports text messaging and text-to-911 only, but soon the company will expand the service to apps, data, and voice services, including 911 voice calls in the future.

Tony Staffieri, President and CEO, Rogers, stated: “Earlier this month Rogers celebrated the 40th anniversary of the first wireless call in Canada, and this new technology represents the next big leap in wireless connectivity. We’re proud to continue our legacy of innovative firsts and to connect Canadians in more places.”

Roger Satellite service will benefit users over more than 5.4 million square kilometers within Canada and will offer satellite-to-mobile connectivity directly from a low Earth orbit satellite constellation to your smartphone.

Satellite Messaging Service to be available for Galaxy Phones via Software Update

Roger has opened the early access program for the new Satellite service for the selected Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy S25 Edge smartphones for now. It will start expanding it on 22 July via a software update to Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Apart from these devices, a few more Galaxy phones will get Rogers Satellite, including Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy A5 in the future.

Interested, eligible users can easily join the beta trial by visiting the Rogers Satellite page and signing up. Notably, the satellite service is only free during the beta program; once the trial period ends, it will ask you to pay $15 per month. The early access participants will get a $5 discount per month for one year.
