Galaxy Watch 8 Works on Other Android Phones but Missing Key Features

The most incredible factor of the Android ecosystem is that it offers seamless compatibility across devices from different brands. However, there’s a small catch! Similarly, the Galaxy Watch 8 series is compatible with more Android smartphones, but with certain limitations.

Samsung has launched its next-generation Galaxy wearables, the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic, alongside the Watch Ultra 2 during its summer Galaxy Unpacked event this year. A report says that these watches are seamlessly accessible across devices from different manufacturers, other than Galaxy phones.

Indeed, the smartwatch sports a host of interesting features, thanks to the integration of the latest Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch, that primarily aims to provide users a healthier lifestyle and well-being, bringing features including Bedtime Guidance, Running Coach, Vascular Load, and Antioxidant Index.

Since the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic can be easily paired with Android phones other than Galaxy devices, there are certain limitations. At the same time, this provides an incomplete experience to the users, forcing them to opt only for Samsung phones in order to operate Galaxy Watches with their entire potential.

Galaxy Watch Feature Limitations for Non-Samsung Phone

Specifically, there are a few significant features that go missing for the users who access their Galaxy Watch 8 with non-Samsung smartphones. These key functionalities include:

Health monitoring:

The current Galaxy Watch 8 has been brought up with some of the most exceptional features that cater to smooth and more efficient health monitoring of the user. The watch comes with a unique sensor technology that offers accurate and actionable insights that can easily help in understanding regular body needs and detect some silent threats, such as ectopic beats, early. However, this mechanism only works properly when connected to a Samsung Galaxy phone.

Sleep tracking:

Samsung has just introduced a new Bedtime Guidance feature that tracks and monitors the amount of sleep required for an individual for a healthier lifestyle. Not just this, the Sleep Apnea feature integrated within the Galaxy Watches only works with Samsung Galaxy devices.

Energy Score:

Energy scores are another newly added feature in the Galaxy Watch 8 models, where the feature detects several useful insights such as physical activity, sleep, and heart rate to provide the user’s overall wellbeing score. However, certain limitations still exist with non-Samsung devices.

Intelligent features:

Indeed, Samsung Galaxy Watches come with some exceptional yet intelligent features, including the remote camera control, which is only available on Samsung Galaxy devices; similarly, the ability to use Samsung Pay (now Google Wallet as well) directly from the Galaxy Watch; and lastly, a more contextual Quick replies to messages are only available on Galaxy smartphones due to the integration of advanced AI.

Personalizations:

More convenient, efficient, and next-level personalizations are indeed limited to Samsung Galaxy devices, as smartphones of other partners don’t provide more advanced personalizations. For example, the activation of battery-saving mode only works when the Galaxy Watch is paired with a Samsung device. Another example includes the newest Kids Watch mode, a feature designed especially for kids to convert their device into a wrist smartphone.
