Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge loses its world’s thinnest smartphone title, as Apple’s iPhone Air surpasses it, but just in terms of thinness.
A few months back, Samsung launched the super-slim Galaxy S25 Edge, which measures 5.8 mm. On the rivalry side, Apple just launched its latest iPhone Air, which measures 5.6 mm, becoming one of the thinnest smartphones today.
Galaxy S25 Edge vs iPhone Air: Thickness Isn’t Everything
According to these measurements, Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is 0.2 mm thicker than the iPhone Air, but in return brings many outstanding advantages in terms of the camera. It is superior when it comes to its 200MP main camera, which supports 2x optical zoom by cropping the sensor, delivering high-quality images even when zooming 3x to 5x digitally.
The Galaxy S25 Edge also has a 12MP ultra-wide camera, offering flexibility, which is something the iPhone Air doesn’t have. Apple also touts 2x optical zoom, but the lack of an ultra-wide camera makes the iPhone Air less versatile compared to Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge.
The newly launched iPhone Air has evidently heated the competition in terms of the ultra-slim smartphone segment. However, even a 0.2 mm thicker design, the Galaxy S25 Edge, is still superior to its Apple rival.
Currently, Samsung is working on its next-generation Galaxy S26 Edge to launch next year, which is expected to cover the thickness gap and even overcome minor limitations, helping it to maintain its leading position in the market.
