Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 3x Camera May See a Downgrade from Its Predecessor

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is now anticipated to have a degraded 3x camera compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, as a new report suggests.
Under the hood, Samsung has been working on the Galaxy S26 series for so long, which will include three models: the Galaxy S26 Pro, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. In a few recent days, several leaks and rumors regarding the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s camera have come into existence; for instance, it will keep the 50MP telephoto despite the camera design upgrade, its 5x camera could pose a significant upgrade, and more.
Meanwhile, a reliable tipster, PhoneArt, shared a text post on X, revealing that Samsung may consider using a 10MP 3x telephoto camera in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The sensor may retain an F 2.4 aperture, and the size would be 1/3.94 inch (1.0 um). If the report comes true, then this camera could replace the legacy Sony IMX754 sensor.
However, the newly rumored sensor is smaller than the IMX754 used in the current Galaxy S25 Ultra as a 3x telephoto, but it has the same optical zoom support as the conventional sensors, while low-light improvements are likely.
Since Samsung hasn’t released any official statement regarding the camera specifications of the Galaxy S26 Ultra yet, it remains to be seen whether the leaked reports will come true. The device is also reported to have a more rounded front middle frame than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which makes it more comfortable to hold.
