Samsung SmartThings adds a new Thread Network for flexible smart home connectivity

Samsung is aiming to bring more advancements within SmartThings, a platform that is designed to control and coordinate various smart home devices. Now, the company announced that it’s taking another step towards great interconnectivity across smart home gadget ecosystems.

The company officially announced (via SammyGuru) that it’s going to integrate an all-new Thread Network Unification within SmartThings, which will allow devices and border routers to work together in a single powerful mesh to deliver the performance and simplified experience that the users have been craving, eliminating the barrier between ecosystems.

At the same time, the new Thread Network Unification will further help in keeping all the smart home devices connected even if the user is offline and routes data with the fastest route available. This feature avoids network fragmentation and complexity when migrating devices, thus making the entire setup easier. Also, users can easily remove or add border routers at any time they want.

Since the smart home setup becomes more improved via the new Thread Network Unification, users will be able to use all the advantages when the smart home gadgets are compatible with Thread 1.4 Border Routers across different ecosystems. Well, currently, the feature is only accessible on select SmartThings hubs, such as Aeotec Smart Home Hub and Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2.

Nevertheless, Samsung appears to be bringing the feature to even more hubs in the coming future. By that time, several third-party smart home ecosystems may perhaps be able to add the Thread 1.4 support for their border routers that apparently provides great interoperability across smart home gadgets.
