Samsung is actively working on a major transformation in the 6G era to extend its presence in the telecommunications industry.
For a few recent weeks, Samsung has been in the news regarding the next generation of wireless communications, 6G technology. It was reported that the company is participating in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for standardization and joining Verizon’s 6G Innovation Forum.
Now, the Executive Vice President and Head of the Advanced Communications Research Center (ACRC) at Samsung Electronics, JinGuk Jeong, has revealed that the fusion of AI and telecommunications will deliver two core benefits, which are as follows –
- Innovations in user experience
- Greater network efficiency through automation
According to Jeong, AI-native means more than just adding AI to a particular equipment or network functions, which embeds AI technologies throughout every stage, from design to operation.
Recently, it has been reported that Samsung is collaborating with SoftBank to bring 6G & AI-RAN innovations for next-generation communications and expertise to drive innovation for future wireless.
Samsung is strategically teaming up with global telecom operators, academic institutions, and industry alliances worldwide, which seems efficient for the firm to expand its research while bringing these technologies to real-world network environments.
The company is also aiming to create consequential user experiences in day-to-day life through next-generation communications. Regarding this, Jeong stated, “In the 6G era, we’ll go beyond improving network performance. Services such as AR and XR will become more widespread, and entirely new ones will emerge,” and added, “Events like the 6G Innovation Forum will also focus on these new services.”
