Google drops a key feature from Wear OS based non-Pixel smartwatches

Samsung Galaxy Watch users, Google announced that its Clock app will no longer be available on your watches, as it has made the app exclusive to only Pixel watches.

Google recently announced that it is making its Clock app exclusive to the Pixel smartwatches, which means that it will no longer support non-Pixel smartwatches, including the Samsung Galaxy Watch, despite running on Wear OS.

This means that, as of now, Galaxy Watch or any other Wear OS watch users won’t be able to download the Clock app from the Play Store anymore.

Noticeably, Google also announced that in case you already have Google’s Clock app installed on your Samsung Galaxy Watch, you can still use it, but there’s a catch, as it will not receive any updates in the future. Since the update is exclusive to the Pixel Watches, the updates will only continue to arrive on them.

If the Galaxy Watch users did not have Google’s Clock app installed, then it is no longer available for installation from the Play Store. Users can either access the default clock app or download from a selection of clock apps available in the Play Store.

Google explained the reason behind removing its own clock apps from non-Pixel watches is that most smartwatch brands already have their own dedicated clock apps, so a separate Google Clock app is not necessary for them.
