Samsung’s 2026 TV models to feature HDR10+ Advanced technology

Samsung is extending its HDR format by introducing a new HDR10+ Advanced technology, aiming to compete with Dolby’s HDR technology.

The Korean tech giant is launching a new HDR format called HDR10+ Advanced, which is an upgraded format that delivers superior visual quality with brighter highlights, richer colors, and smoother motion. Samsung will debut it on its 2026 TV models.

The HDR10+ Advanced adds six new features designed to take full advantage of the latest display tech, such as Mini LED and Micro LED panels that are capable of reaching up to 5,000 nits of brightness.

According to the report from Forbes, the new HDR10+ Advanced includes HDR10+ Bright, Genre Optimization, Intelligent Motion Smoothing (FRC), Intelligent Gaming, Local Tone-Mapping, and Advanced Color Control.

Each of these tools offers different convenient facilities, and the key aim behind introducing these tools is to offer content creators and TV manufacturers better control over the final look of HDR content. For instance, the HDR10+ Bright uses smarter metadata to help TVs achieve more realistic brightness and tonal detail, while Genre Optimization also allows creators to tag content by genre, for instance, action, drama, and sports, which helps TVs automatically apply the optimal tone mapping for the particular category.

The Intelligent Motion Smoothing reduces judder and motion blur, the Intelligent Gaming feature helps to adjust tone mapping based on room lighting to keep visuals consistent automatically, and Local Tone-Mapping enhances contrast by dividing the image into smaller zones for more precise backlight control.

However, the company has yet to showcase the working version, as currently it has just revealed a simulated demo that hinted at noticeably brighter, punchier visuals with upgraded shadow detail.
