Samsung Galaxy users, get ready to experience Apple’s AirDrop feature for file sharing with iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, as Quick Share will soon gain this support.
In case you missed it, an “AirDrop” is a wireless file-sharing service for Apple devices, the act of dropping supplies from an aircraft, or a distribution of free cryptocurrency tokens. Now, the service is coming to Android devices, including Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
Google has announced that it has added AirDrop support to Quick Share, allowing Samsung and other Android devices to send and receive files from iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It’s expected that Samsung will bring this feature to Galaxy devices via the upcoming update.
Notably, Quick Share has received AirDrop support, but for now, it is only compatible with the Google Pixel 10 series. However, it’s highly anticipated that the feature will reach other Android smartphones soon with the upcoming Quick Share update in the near future.
Quick Share will use AirDrop’s ‘Everyone for 10 minutes’ mode, based on Bluetooth for device discovery and Wi-Fi Direct for actual file sharing. One of our reliable colleagues reported that Google hasn’t asked Apple for help, and it is bringing AirDrop support to Quick Share by using its own implementations. Google is expecting that sometime in the future, Apple will cooperate with it to help bring AirDrop’s “Contact Only” mode to Quick Share.
However, it remains unclear exactly when this convenient feature will arrive on Galaxy devices; but it’s expected that it will not take too enough time.
