Samsung is now reported not to be considering offering any major or notable camera upgrades to its upcoming Ultra models, as it may continue to utilize a 1/1.3-inch-class 200MP sensor.
Samsung was the lone firm to bring a 200MP sensor to phones, and in no time, it has quickly popularized this technology on many mid-range and high-end models. Now, to raise the competition and stand strong against Samsung, Sony has just launched its first 200MP sensor.
Currently, Samsung is gearing up to launch its next-generation Galaxy S26 series, including Base, Plus, and Ultra variants. To date, several camera specifications of the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra have surfaced online; for instance, it could feature an AI upscaling-based Telephoto camera.
Meanwhile, now a tipster, @UniverseIce, shared a post on X, claiming that the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra won’t bring a major camera breakthrough. Previously, it was revealed that the 200MP camera from Sony or any other equivalent ISOCELL sensor would be featured in the Galaxy S27 Ultra. However, it’s not the case anymore, as the tipster revealed that the plans to upgrade the 200MP camera on the Galaxy S27 Ultra have been dumped by “senior management.”
Notably, the tipster claimed that the company may continue to utilize a 1/1.3-inch-calss 200MP sensor in the next Ultra phones, although it’s not officially confirmed yet. The company is expected to use enhanced versions of the ISOCELL HP2. It will be interesting to see exactly what will happen next.
