Samsung Semiconductor rejects long-term contract for Galaxy DRAM, affecting the Galaxy S26 series

Samsung is dealing with an internal conflict brewing between its chip-making division (DS Division) and mobile division (MX Division, responsible for Galaxy devices), which seems to affect the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.

The company is expected to launch the next-generation Galaxy S26 series sometime in late January 2026. Meanwhile, a new report revealed that the DS Division has rejected a request from the MX Division for a long-term deal on memory chips for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.

One of the reasons behind this decision is to prioritize profitability for the DS Division due to volatile memory chip prices. This suggests that the MX Division has failed to secure a stable, long-term supply deal for crucial memory components such as DRAM, and the Division is only entertaining contracts every quarter at its best.

According to the reports, the Mobile Team has managed to secure DRAMs for Q4 2025. Initially, this year, Samsung’s 12GB LPDDR5X RAM price was nearly $33, but in the past few months, the price has been massively raised by $70 despite the same DRAM.

If the company doesn’t deal with this ongoing internal dispute between the DS Division and the MX Division, then it could result in instability in the component supply chain, which potentially puts the Galaxy S26 launch at risk. It could also force Samsung to increase the final price of this upcoming series. It will be interesting to see exactly what will happen next.
