Samsung’s Now Brief has always had the right idea behind it. A personalized daily snapshot on your lock screen, pulling together health data, reminders, and news, sounds genuinely useful. In practice, though, most users barely glance at it. The feature never quite delivered enough to become a habit.
Developers at Samsung are reportedly working on a meaningful upgrade to Now Brief as part of the next major interface update. The most practical addition is expanded weather information. Right now, Now Brief shows you today’s forecast and pushes you to tap through to weather.com for anything beyond that. It is a small friction point, but friction kills daily routines. The plan for One UI 9 is to surface a full weekly forecast directly within Now Brief, no extra taps required.

That is a sensible fix. Weather is one of the few types of information people actually check every morning, so making it more complete and accessible is a direct improvement to the feature’s core value.
Samsung is also said to be working on dynamic wallpapers and themes that shift based on live weather conditions. Whether that becomes a beloved feature or a novelty that users disable after a week is hard to say, but it at least signals that Samsung is thinking about Now Brief as a cohesive experience rather than just a widget.
One UI 9 is still in development and is not expected to arrive before July, likely tied to Samsung’s next foldable launch. Plenty could change before then, but the direction looks more focused than past iterations.
