Cities Skylines Expanded Edition - sprawling city built on Nintendo Switch 2

Cities: Skylines is getting its biggest Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade yet. Paradox Interactive and Tantalus Media announced Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition on October 7, confirming an October 28 release at $49.99, built specifically for Switch 2’s improved hardware.

The same day also brings new paid content to the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game, giving existing players something new alongside the Switch 2 launch.

What’s New in the Expanded Edition

The headline upgrade is scale. Buildable tiles jump from the original Switch version’s 9-tile limit to 25 tiles, giving players significantly more room to expand their cities. A Map Editor is also included, letting players build and customize their own landscapes before starting a new city from scratch.

Precision placement tools, a distance indicator, and updated snapping options round out the quality-of-life improvements, aimed at making construction feel more refined on Switch 2’s hardware compared to the original Switch release.

Content-wise, the Expanded Edition comes loaded. Ten DLC expansions and content packs are bundled in, including After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities, and Sunset Harbor, alongside smaller packs like Map Pack 3, Country Road, Pearls from the East, Deep Focus Radio, and Carols, Candles & Candy.

A Discount for Existing Switch Owners, But Not a Free Upgrade

Players who already own Cities: Skylines on the original Nintendo Switch won’t get a free upgrade to the Expanded Edition. Instead, Paradox is offering a 70% loyalty discount, valid from October 28, 2026, through April 28, 2027, giving existing owners a meaningful price break without making the transition automatic.

New Content Also Hits PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

Switch 2 isn’t getting all the attention this month. On the same October 28 date, Paradox is releasing two new Content Creator Packs and a Radio Station for Cities: Skylines and Cities: Skylines – Remastered on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The packs are priced separately at $5.99 each, with the Radio Station at $3.99, or bundled together as the Estates & Escapes Bundle for $12.99.

It’s a notably active month for the Skylines franchise overall. Cities: Skylines II also received its own content update, Expansion Pass 2, on October 2, marking developer Iceflake Studios’ first expansion pass since taking over the sequel’s development from Colossal Order late last year, adding new park, tourism, and emergency service features alongside the Autumn Breeze patch.

Looking further ahead, LEGO Skylines, a separate spinoff from the same development team, is confirmed for a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
